Sarvam AI’s Indus Cowork is being rolled out to 2,500 Maharashtra government officials following its launch by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on October 28. The AI productivity platform is designed to help officials draft documents, analyse reports, summarise files and search government records.
The Maharashtra government approved the deployment of Sarvam’s sovereign AI solutions in August, with a two-year outlay of ₹11.26 crore. The agreement covers Indus Cowork for government employees alongside other AI and speech technology applications.
Officials can use Indus Cowork to draft official notes and replies, research government policies, translate and summarise lengthy documents, analyse data and convert scanned records into searchable text, according to Sarvam. The workspace supports 22 languages, including Marathi.
The platform also includes tools for specific administrative tasks. GR Expert allows officials to search Government Resolutions (GRs) across departments and track changes to them. Email Summariser condenses official correspondence, while RFP Bid Evaluator helps officials compare and assess tender bids, according to the platform’s launch announcement.
The Maharashtra agreement extends beyond Indus Cowork. The approved package includes Samvaad, a voice and WhatsApp-based system for citizen outreach, and integrates Sarvam’s Saaras speech recognition and Bulbul text-to-speech models with the state’s MahaAI platform.
The two-year outlay of ₹11.26 crore covers the deployment of Sarvam’s sovereign AI solutions. The agreement places AI tools within government workflows involving official correspondence, policy documents and departmental records.
Sarvam said its solutions would run on secure, audited infrastructure located entirely within India, keeping government data in the country. The company also said the state could inspect the systems hosting the deployment.
