Wipro Limited, a global leader in technology services and consulting, on Thursday announced the launch of its GitHub Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. This initiative, part of Wipro’s broader ai360 strategy, is aimed at positioning GitHub as a central pillar of innovation, collaboration, and AI-enabled development within the organisation.

The new CoE is designed to integrate GitHub’s tools, including Microsoft M365 and GitHub Copilot, into Wipro’s software engineering lifecycle, enabling development teams to boost productivity and deliver high-impact solutions at scale.

“The launch of our GitHub CoE highlights our commitment to championing a culture of AI-first mindset with the right skillset and toolset amongst our workforce,” said Sanjeev Jain, chief operating officer of Wipro Limited.

“We are equipping our developers with the best tools and practices and encouraging a culture of innovation to build future-ready AI-powered industry and cross-industry solutions that solve our clients’ unique business challenges,” he added.

The CoE will house a dedicated team of AI champions trained extensively on GitHub tools. The initiative aims to nurture talent and establish a robust foundation for collaborative software development.

To support this, Wipro plans to run a range of training programmes including workshops, hackathons, codeathons, and meetups. A Community of Practice will also be formed to foster cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing through GitHub Champions and subject matter experts.

GitHub, the world’s leading platform for developer collaboration, has expressed strong support for the initiative.

“Wipro has long been a pioneer in innovation, and by rolling out GitHub Copilot at scale, they’re showing the world what true transformation with AI looks like,” said Kyle Daigle, chief operating officer at GitHub. “The GitHub CoE is more than an investment–it’s a blueprint for building with AI at the core.”

Regarding hiring, during the Q4 FY25 results, Saurabh Govil, CHRO, said, “We ended FY25 with approximately 10,000 young freshers hired.” He added that Wipro will continue to onboard people while ensuring they can be deployed on tasks, ensuring utilisation while hiring freshers.

Govil also spoke about Wipro’s centres of excellence for upskilling students with AI, which he claims are built at 50 campuses in India.
