Windsurf Upgrades Its Free Plan With Brand New Logo

Windsurf, the AI coding tool, has announced an update to its free plan, offering additional perks.

The free tier of Windsurf will provide access to more premium credits, allowing users to experience a complete agentic experience. The premium prompt credits have been upped from five to 25 a month.

This significant increase in credits, combined with the discounted GPT-4.1 and o4-mini rates (for a limited time), means free users can now execute nearly 100 premium prompts per month, unlocking substantial AI-powered coding assistance.

Windsurf will be providing unlimited Cascade Base model usage in ‘Write’ mode as a complete agent. It was initially available, but not as an agentic experience.

Free-tier users now enjoy unlimited fast tab completions. This feature helps autocomplete code and allows users to quickly jump to their next editing location, among other benefits. The feature, previously limited or performance-restricted for free users, is now a premium perk available to everyone.

The updated free plan gives access to unlimited preview, a feature that displays the view of the app being built.

Moreover, free tier users can deploy one web application or website from within Windsurf per day through public URLs.

The changes to the free tier appear to offer a premium AI experience to users, allowing them to decide whether they want to upgrade to the paid version.

Recently, Windsurf updated its entire pricing plan by eliminating Flow Action credits, which enable users to pay per user prompt. The company explained that, per user, prompt pricing is more beneficial because users can use more prompts compared to tool call pricing. It stated that the move aims to simplify its pricing plans for both individuals, teams and enterprises.

Windsurf has also refreshed its logo, along with the pricing update, in an effort to better reflect its mission.

The updates to the platform come at a time when OpenAI is looking to acquire Windsurf and win over developers
