Telangana Targets ₹1 Lakh Crore Investment in Life Sciences by 2030

Telangana has set a bold goal of attracting ₹1 lakh crore in new investments in the life sciences sector by 2030, creating five lakh new jobs, minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced at the AusBiotech International Conference 2025 in Melbourne.

Speaking at the event, organised by AusBiotech and the Government of Victoria, the minister said the State has prepared a “Roadmap 2030” to establish Telangana as a global hub for life sciences innovation. “Telangana is preparing a comprehensive Life Sciences Policy to accelerate innovation, infrastructure, and global partnerships,” he said.

Over the past 20 months, Telangana has attracted ₹3.2 lakh crore in new investments, of which ₹63,000 crore came from the life sciences sector alone. Exports from the sector reached ₹26,000 crore between April and December 2024. The State now aims to expand the life sciences economy from $80 billion to $250 billion by 2030.

Babu also noted that life sciences office space in Hyderabad grew from 0.6 million sq. ft. in 2022 to 2.4 million sq. ft. in 2024, showing the sector’s strong momentum.

To meet the needs of a rapidly changing industry, Telangana is investing in a “bio-digital workforce” skilled in biotechnology, AI, and healthcare.

The Life Sciences University and Young India Skills University, both state initiatives, will help train the next generation of talent. The State is also partnering with the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution to align skills and innovation with global standards.

“Telangana’s strength lies in its innovation ecosystem. Our slogan is not merely Make in India, but Invent in Telangana,” Babu said. He pointed to the State’s strong infrastructure, including Genome Valley, medical devices park, B-Hub, Bharat Future City, and plug-and-play industrial parks, as major draws for investors.

The minister invited Australian companies to invest in high-growth areas such as cell and gene therapy, biologics, mRNA vaccines, contract research and manufacturing, diagnostics, medtech, and digital health.

He also highlighted opportunities in AI-driven drug discovery, genomics, green biomanufacturing, and agri-biotech.

“We are committed to providing full support to all investors,” Babu said, adding that Telangana hopes to build a strong “Victoria–Telangana Innovation Corridor.”
