Tata Elxsi, a global leader in design and technology services, and Infineon Technologies, semiconductor solutions company, on Wednesday announced a strategic collaboration to develop application-ready electric vehicle (EV) solutions tailored for the Indian market.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to accelerate the adoption of EV systems across key mobility segments, including two-wheelers (2W), three-wheelers (3W), passenger vehicles (PV), and commercial vehicles (CV).

This move aligns with India’s growing shift towards electrification, with EV sales increasing year-on-year in 2024. The collaboration will focus on creating cost-optimised, safety-compliant subsystems that meet automotive safety integrity level D (ASIL-D) standards, which are critical for the safety of modern electric vehicles.

“We are already building several of our EV solutions on Infineon SoCs and components,” said Nambi Ganesh, head of automotive at Tata Elxsi.

Tata Elxsi will leverage its expertise in design, system integration, and validation, while Infineon will provide access to its latest semiconductor technologies, including silicon carbide (SiC)-based components, microcontrollers, and integrated circuits (ICs).

Together, they will develop high-voltage inverters for traction and auxiliary systems, scalable battery management systems (BMS), bi-directional onboard chargers, and thermal management solutions to cater to India’s growing EV market.

“This partnership with Tata Elxsi is a significant step in our journey to support India’s electrification goals,” Kenneth Lim, senior vice president, automotive, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, said.

“By combining their design and integration expertise with our advanced semiconductor solutions, we are enhancing the development of ready-to-deploy EV systems that meet the highest safety and performance standards,” he added.

The collaboration is also aligned with the national targets set by NITI Aayog, including 80% electrification of 2W and 3W and 70% electrification of CVs by 2030, reinforcing the companies’ commitment to supporting India’s electric mobility goals.
