OpenAI is expected to release a new ‘Agent Builder’ feature at its DevDay event on October 6, as reported by TestingCatalog.
The report, which claims to have accessed a preview version of the product, called it the ‘smoothest agent builder canvas’ in the market. It is likely to compete with Zapier, n8n, and other platforms that offer a canvas-like interface to build agentic workflows.
The Agent Builder will enable users to create agentic flows using predefined templates with simple drag-and-drop actions.
The tool is stated to support a range of modular building blocks, logic nodes (such as if-else and loops), connectors like MCP, user approvals, guardrails, file search, and data transformation steps.
It is expected to offer flexibility comparable to other agentic workflow platforms, according to the report.
If these reports align with the eventual product that OpenAI will release, it will provide non-technical users with a platform to build agentic workflows with ease.
“In terms of deployment, users initiate flow creation from a dedicated UI within the OpenAI platform, leveraging a sidebar palette of components,” added the report.
Several users and enthusiasts expressed their optimism about the upcoming tool and its implications on the ecosystem.
“For 12 months, people have been stitching together tools like n8n, Zapier, Make, Vapi, and Claude workflows to simulate autonomy. It worked but it was duct tape,” said Greg Isenberg, CEO of Late Checkout, in a post on X.
Isenberg added that such a launch could unify an entire stack of automation tools into a single native layer inside OpenAI’s ecosystem. “Non-technical founders get superpowers. Businesses get workflows that run 24/7 without ops [operations] teams.”
Riley Brown, the co-founder of VibeCode, said in a post on X, “For the past three years, people have been making ChatGPT wrappers. I think the next wave will be Agent Wrappers.”
