Noida-based IG Drones has secured what they claim to be India’s first patent for an indigenous defence drone simulator. The simulator, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Defence Expo 2022, aims to strengthen India’s defence capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The simulator was designed, developed, and built in India, offering realistic training for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces. It enables users to operate combat drones in high-risk simulated environments, including GPS-denied zones and multi-drone scenarios.
Defence Milestone
IG Drones’ simulator uses AI, physics-based engines, and real-time terrain modelling. It reduces reliance on foreign technology and provides a secure, cost-effective Indian alternative.
“This patent is a proud declaration of India’s technological resurgence,” IG Drones founder and CEO Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya said. “We are building the future of Bharat’s defence.”
The company is now the first in India to hold intellectual property rights for a drone simulator. Until now, this domain was primarily controlled by foreign firms.
Defence Tech Contributor
The startup has previously supported the Indian Armed Forces in the recent Operation Sindoor. The company deployed indigenously built vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), FPV, and kamikaze drones for surveillance, mapping, and precision strikes.
This achievement aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 mission and signals growing self-reliance in defence technology. It also reflects India’s ambition to shape the future of warfare using domestic innovation.
The company has also recently partnered with and signed contracts with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). India’s journey toward defence independence continues with this milestone. The patent not only advances national security but also reinforces the message that India is ready to lead with its own tools and talent.
