How Did Kyndryl Automate Noida International Airport?

The modern approach to efficiency flips the old model: lower costs and faster processes now define success, and sectors are adopting it fast.

Not just the private players, today even the public sector is bullish on automation and digitisation to streamline repetitive tasks, optimise workflows, and reduce processing times. This enables the government to enhance service delivery while upholding high standards.

India’s industrial automation market is expected to surpass $29 billion by 2029. As a key component of automation, managed services play a critical role in advancing digital government initiatives.

Such companies assist governments in effectively managing IT systems, data processes, and business operations through continuous monitoring and expert oversight.

Kyndryl, an IT services company, has partnered with Noida International Airport (NIA) to automate and optimise its technology operations, marking a significant milestone in transforming the airport’s infrastructure and enhancing the passenger experience.

This collaboration focuses on leveraging the company’s AI-powered platform, Kyndryl Bridge, to establish a strong IT foundation, ensure 24/7 operational support, and improve passenger services through advanced technology solutions.

Building a Strong IT Foundation

Manjula Ramaswamy, vice president and GCC head of Kyndryl India, told AIM, “As a greenfield airport, NIA’s vision is to create a world-class, customer-centric experience, with technology playing a central role in achieving this goal.”

By reviewing NIA’s existing infrastructure, Kyndryl established a scalable IT architecture, implemented effective policies, and set up frameworks to manage security, asset management, and risk compliance throughout airport operations.

“Kyndryl’s AI-powered platform, Kyndryl Bridge, is at the heart of NIA’s IT operations,” Ramaswamy added.

The platform provides real-time monitoring of system health and performance, enabling proactive detection and mitigation of potential issues before they impact airport operations or the passenger experience.

By automating system management, Kyndryl Bridge ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of the airport around the clock.

“We will manage NIA’s IT estate on Kyndryl Bridge, accelerating the automation of its IT infrastructure,” Lingraju Sawkar, president of Kyndryl India, mentioned in the press release

Unlike traditional systems that rely on fragmented technologies and manual intervention, Kyndryl Bridge provides unified observability and AI-driven insights to proactively manage the airport’s IT ecosystem.

Beyond automation, Kyndryl is also implementing a comprehensive suite of information security services for NIA. This includes first-response systems for cybersecurity incidents, security policy administration, and continuous health status monitoring to safeguard NIA’s operations.

Kyndryl’s robust security infrastructure ensures that the airport remains resilient against digital threats and remains compliant with industry standards.

Supporting India’s Connectivity and Growth

NIA’s expansion is a key part of a broader plan to boost connectivity across India, particularly as many people in the country still haven’t had the chance to fly. Kyndryl’s partnership with NIA plays a crucial role in supporting this transformation.

NIA aims to combine Indian hospitality with Swiss technology and efficiency in its design, creating a modern, user-friendly airport experience. The first phase of the airport will feature one runway and one terminal, with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually.

Once completed, the airport will be able to accommodate up to 70 million passengers per year.

“By improving operational efficiency, enhancing security, and offering a seamless passenger experience, NIA is set to become a globally recognised hub for modern, automated air travel,” Ramaswamy explained.

In addition to its AI-powered platform, Kyndryl has accelerated AI adoption through strategic partnerships. For instance, collaboration with Microsoft helps enterprises modernise their IT landscapes, with Kyndryl playing a pivotal role in Microsoft’s RISE with SAP migration program to streamline transformation journeys.

“Our work with NVIDIA supports organisations in scaling AI adoption by integrating NVIDIA’s advanced AI technologies with Kyndryl’s expertise in managed services, driving innovation in automation and analytics,” Ramaswamy mentioned.

Kyndryl also strengthened its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) through a multi-year agreement to co-develop generative AI and machine learning solutions via the Kyndryl and AWS Innovation Factory, driving digital transformation and operational efficiency.

Over the years, Kyndryl has helped enterprises streamline and modernise their technology infrastructure, enabling greater efficiency and scalability.

Leveraging its collaboration with leading cloud providers, Kyndryl migrated over 100 financial systems onto a single platform, reducing more than 1,500 active applications to just a few hundred and consolidating 54 global data centres down to four hyperscaler locations.

Inspired by this transformation, a leading US insurance company is working with Kyndryl to reinvent its India capability centre, building a next-gen tech platform with fit-for-purpose capabilities.
