Coforge has introduced an Autonomous Software Factory (ASF), which the IT services company said is designed to coordinate AI agents across the software development lifecycle (SDLC), covering coding, testing, validation, code review and quality assurance.
According to the company, specialised agents can perform these tasks in parallel within secure execution environments. Coforge said the model includes governance and human oversight, although it did not disclose implementation details or customer deployments.
“Enterprise software development is entering a post-coding era, where generating software is quickly becoming the easy part,” said Vic Gupta, Executive Vice President, Microsoft Business Unit at Coforge. “The real source of competitive advantage will be how effectively organisations coordinate, govern, and scale AI agents across the software lifecycle.”
The announcement comes as AI agents take on more software development tasks. As agents handle multiple stages of development, companies must coordinate their outputs and establish processes for testing and review.
Coforge said ASF is intended to help enterprises manage these activities while retaining controls over software quality and compliance. However, the company has not specified which tasks can run autonomously, where human approval is required or how it will measure improvements in delivery speed and software quality.
Other Indian IT services firms are also adding agentic AI to their engineering offerings. HCLTech plans to integrate Anthropic’s Claude and Claude Code into its AI Force platform, with applications including IT support and code remediation.
Coforge has not disclosed customer deployments, commercial terms or quantified productivity gains from ASF.
