Andhra Pradesh has initiated a project to establish Quantum Valley, a world-class quantum computing hub in Amaravati. Spearheaded by CM N Chandrababu Naidu, this initiative collaborates with leading institutions such as IIT Madras, IBM, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The project aims to advance quantum computing and deep tech, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leader in these fields. It aligns with India’s National Quantum Mission, a ₹6,000 crore initiative to support quantum technology developments until 2031.
“Just as we led the IT revolution in the 1990s, we want Andhra Pradesh to lead advancements in quantum technology, securing a first-mover advantage in this transformative field,” Naidu stated in a post on X.
The project will focus on attracting top researchers and global investments to integrate quantum computing into various sectors like AI, cybersecurity, and defence.
Quantum Valley will be part of the state’s DeepTech Research Park initiative in Amaravati, aiming to foster cutting-edge research and innovation. A task force has been formed to oversee the development and investment strategy for the hub.
The state government is also advancing green energy projects, aiming to supply 160 GW of green energy within the next five years, facilitating substantial investments and job creation.
Regarding strategic goals, the Quantum Valley initiative has three primary objectives: attracting talent, encouraging global investments, and developing advanced technologies.
The state seeks to create an environment that draws top-tier researchers and engineers in quantum computing. By integrating quantum computing into its broader technological ecosystem, Andhra Pradesh aims to leverage quantum technology for economic growth, similar to its role in India’s IT expansion.
Key partners IIT Madras, TCS, and IBM are contributing to research and promoting multi-institution collaborations.
Earlier last month, the Andhra Pradesh government conducted a key meeting to drive the efforts on the project. The meeting was attended by stakeholders like Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, L&T chairman & MD S N Subrahmanyan, and IBM Research India director Amith Singhee, science and technology department secretary Abhay Karandikar, IIT Tirupati director Satyanarayana Kalidindi, and IBM Quantum India leader L Venkata Subramaniam.
