Amazon to Invest $35 Billion in India by 2030, to Expand AI Initiatives & Add 10 Lakh Jobs

Amazon will invest more than $35 billion in India by 2030, expanding its footprint across retail, logistics, cloud, and AI infrastructure.

The announcement was made at the sixth Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi on December 10. The company also highlighted that it has already invested nearly $40 billion in India over the past 15 years.

Citing a report from Keystone Strategy, Amazon claimed to be the ‘largest foreign investor in India’.

According to the report, Amazon has digitised 1.2 crore small businesses, enabled $20 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports, and supported 2.8 crore direct and indirect jobs across India as of 2024.

Amit Agarwal, senior vice president for emerging markets, said Amazon’s growth reflects its long-term alignment with India’s development goals. “We are humbled to have been a part of India’s digital transformation journey over the past 15 years,” he said.

He noted that Amazon’s investments in fulfilment centres, transportation networks, data centres, payments systems and workforce training have powered both business expansion and broader economic participation.

The company plans to create an additional 10 lakh jobs by 2030, driven by the expansion of its logistics network and the parallel growth of packaging, manufacturing, and transportation industries that depend on it.

Amazon also outlined an AI-led strategy to “democratise access to AI for millions of Indians,” including a commitment to bring AI tools to 1.5 crore small businesses and introduce AI education programs for 40 lakh government school students.

Agarwal said the next phase of investment will accelerate exports, infrastructure development and innovation. “We’re excited to continue being a catalyst for India’s growth,” he said, with Amazon targeting $80 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports by 2030.

This announcement adds to a growing wave of significant U.S. tech investments in India. Microsoft recently committed $17.5 billion over four years (2026–2029) to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure, strengthen skilling programs, and support its ongoing operations in India.

In October, Google committed about $15 billion over five years (2026–2030) to build a gigawatt-scale AI and cloud data-centre hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh — the company’s most significant investment in India to date.
