After the launch of Google Gemini 2.0, the company is shipping more features to NotebookLM. According to details on their blog, they have introduced a redesigned interface, interactive audio features, and a premium subscription called NotebookLM Plus.
“We have so many ideas for NotebookLM next year,” teased Josh Woodward, vice president at Google Labs commenting on the promising future of this product, which started as an experiment in July 2023. Even the product team agreed then that they did not anticipate this level of success for the tool.
NotebookLM 2.0 is Here
NotebookLM is introducing smarter, more adaptive features to make tasks like reading, chatting, and creating easier. Its new design adjusts to user needs and anticipates actions, such as creating an audio overview or chatting with sources, to save time and effort.
Users can now interact directly with audio hosts through the new Interactive Audio Overview feature. Users on X are describing this feature as game-changing, amplifying the product’s viral success.
“The call in feature on NotebookLM to ask questions on the podcast is super fun, check it out as it is rolling today with a bunch of new features,” wrote Google CEO Sunar Pichai on X.
The premium plan – NotebookLM Plus – adds features like higher usage limits, custom responses, team notebooks, and better security. It’s available through Google Workspace or as a standalone subscription, with wider access coming in 2025.
“I am so excited to see Studio finally launch. It’s the last chunk of what we dreamed of almost 2 years ago: a powerful surface that takes all the inputs that matter to you, a powerful AI-first editor, and a seamless way to create source-grounded, novel outputs that personalize your world,” said NotebookLM creator Raiza Martin congratulating the team on these launch. Interestingly, she along with other colleagues left Google to start their new startup. Former member of the team, Jason Spielman, shared his learnings on building an AI-first experience.
