Reliance to Invest $15 Billion to Build AI Data Centres

Reliance Knows How to Scale AI in India

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced plans to invest $12–15 billion in AI infrastructure in Jamnagar.

The company aims to build a 1-gigawatt datacenter network that could push its AI vertical toward a $30 billion valuation by 2027, according to Morgan Stanley estimates.

Construction has already begun, where Reliance is setting up gigawatt-scale datacenters powered by renewable energy. The company plans to underwrite roughly 25% of the capacity itself while offering the rest a Datacenter-as-a-Service for global hyperscalers.

To achieve this, Reliance has incorporated a new joint venture, Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL), in partnership with Meta Platforms. Meta will hold a 30% stake in the venture with an initial commitment of ₹855 crore. The collaboration is focused on building enterprise AI services for large organisations in India and beyond.

The alliance gives Reliance access to Meta’s AI expertise and global ecosystem, while Meta gains a strong foothold in India’s growing AI and enterprise cloud market.

Beyond Meta, Reliance is also teaming up with Google Cloud to launch an AI-focused cloud region in India and working with Microsoft Azure on infrastructure optimisation for AI workloads. The company plans to dedicate 100 megawatts of Gen AI datacenter capacity to enterprise inference demand through these partnerships.

Reliance’s AI roadmap follows a two-track approach — developing enterprise AI services while simultaneously integrating renewable energy. The company’s data centres will tap into its broader plan to install 100 gigawatts of solar capacity, ensuring its AI operations remain sustainable and cost-efficient.

Morgan Stanley projects that Reliance’s AI business could generate $1.5–1.6 million in annual revenue per megawatt, yielding an 11% return on initial investment. With its vast ecosystem spanning telecom, retail, and energy, Reliance is positioning itself to compete — and collaborate — with global technology leaders.
