BonV Aero Completes 60km BVLOS Drone Mission with 20kg Payload

BonV Aero, a drone manufacturing company based in Odisha, claims to have become the first Indian company to complete a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flight over 60 kilometres carrying a 20kg payload.

The mission, conducted across an undisclosed route in India, was completed in 75 minutes at an average speed of 48 km/h, demonstrating the company’s long-range heavy-lift capabilities.

The flight aimed to test operational readiness for real-world logistics applications. The company confirmed that the UAV used in the mission is powered by its proprietary propulsion and energy systems.

It was designed for long endurance and heavy payloads, targeting uses in defence, disaster response and delivery in remote areas. Co-founder and CEO Satyabrata Satapathy said, “This is a defining moment for Indian drone logistics. It’s the first time a domestic UAV has demonstrated this level of range and payload together in a BVLOS flight.”

Remote and Critical Operations

BonV Aero stated that this test supports future missions in terrains where traditional infrastructure is not viable.

The other co-founder and co-CEO, Gaurav Achha, noted, “We’re building for India’s toughest geographies, where roads end and helicopters are expensive or risky. This milestone proves we can deliver meaningful payloads over long distances, safely and repeatedly.”

The achievement follows the company’s earlier high-altitude record in 2023, when it lifted 30kg at 19,024 feet at Umling La Pass in Ladakh. BonV Aero says these developments signal readiness for wider deployment in both military and civilian logistics.

With advancements in altitude, endurance and payload, BonV Aero positions itself at the forefront of India’s drone logistics sector. The firm aims to support battlefield supply, emergency aid and commercial deliveries in hard-to-reach regions.

The company emphasised its focus on building dependable UAV platforms for operational environments where conventional transport is impractical.
