Replit’s New Assistant, AI Agent Now Available for All

Replit Agents are Here to Replace All Software Engineers and their AI Tools

Gone are the days of copying and pasting codes. Now all you have to do is describe what you need, and AI assistants will make the changes. Now, Replit, the online IDE (integrated development environment) has released a new ‘AI Assistant’ that lets you make changes to the code by using prompts in natural language.

More importantly, the Replit Agent is available for all. Launched two months ago, the agent helps users build end-to-end software products by just using natural language. “[Replit Agent] is the best way to go from an idea to a deployed app,” said Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, in a post on X

Replit Agent is also capable of designing visual interfaces using React, and you can add your design inspirations with just a screenshot or a URL.

The newly launched Assistant will work seamlessly with the Replit AI agent. “If the Agent takes you 0 to 1, the Assistant takes you 1 to 10,” read the announcement.

There’s more – Replit has also announced a new pricing metric called Checkpoints. After considering a token, or a message-based approach for a pricing model, Replit said that checkpoints were a ‘sweet spot’ they landed on.

Replit’s Core subscription now packs in $25 in monthly credit, or $40 per user in a Teams plan. This includes 100 Agent checkpoints and 500 Assistant edit requests per month.

After months of waiting, Replit agent is finally ready to be used by all. Replit also said that the Agent and the Assistant have ‘direct access to 8 years’ worth of battle-tested infrastructure’, indicating that they’ve devolved a foundation that sits on top of years of running production-ready code. A checkpoint is a tangible piece of work the Replit agent has completed.

It will be interesting to see how Replit will compare with Cursor, GitHub Copilot/Spark, and Vercel’s v0, which is mostly focused on generating high-quality front-end aspects. That said, it may not be a competition after all, as developers are using these tools in tandem with each other.

Greg Isenberg, CEO of Late Checkout, and a popular YouTuber, in a post on X said that everyone can now be a founder and act on ideas before it’s too late.

“Get up, open v0/replit/etc, start building”, he said.

Besides Replit, the AI coding space received two other important updates this week. ChatGPT’s updated Canvas can now run and execute Python code. It is available for all users, including the ones without the Plus version. After a long wait, Cognition AI is making Devin AI available for all users, albeit with a whopping $500 per month price tag.

While most of these tools and integrations help you write code and work on individual projects, Devin is positioned as a full-stack agent that aims to replace a junior developer. But will it also end up replacing these tools as well?
