Bengaluru’s QpiAI to Set up 8-qubit Quantum Computer in Andhra’s Quantum Valley

Andhra Pradesh will host India’s first indigenously built eight-qubit quantum computer this November in Amaravati. The installation, developed by Bengaluru-based quantum startup QpiAI, is supported by the National Quantum Mission (NQM).

N Chandrababu Naidu, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, also announced this in a post on X, saying, “This initiative, backed by the National Quantum Mission, aims to transform agriculture, water management, and healthcare.”

QpiAI selected Andhra Pradesh following a welcoming and proactive approach from the state government, he expressed. The installation site will be VIT-AP University in Amaravati.

“We are providing Andhra Pradesh with an indigenous quantum computer so that we can fulfil the dream of India’s Quantum Valley,” Nagendra Nagaraja, QpiAI founder and CEO, told AIM in a call.

While the company’s headquarters remain in Bengaluru, where it has built a 25-qubit system and a quantum research park, QpiAI affirmed its commitment to decentralised development. “We are from India, and the states are really gearing up to make sure they are quantum educated. We are always there to support them.”

Although the installation will be led by engineers from Bengaluru, the company is open to expanding operations in the state. “That’s always on the card,” Nagaraja said. The company also hinted at expansion in Delhi and Northeast India, as well as plans for installations in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

QpiAI will bundle the Amaravati-based quantum computer with training materials and free software access to foster local talent. “We are going to bundle this quantum computer with all the training materials, and the software will be available free of cost for the AP network,” he said. The company also plans to launch the ‘Amaravati Cloud’ (a version of Qpi Cloud) to enable global accessibility of the system.

Nagaraja said that they can perform specific simulations on small atoms and hopes that education will be the first domain of application of this computer. Talks between QpiAI and the Andhra Pradesh government began in January this year, Nagaraja confirmed. The move aligns with India’s broader strategy to bolster domestic quantum capability.
